3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
3.1 Exposure Standards
TWA : 200 ppm, 835 mg/m3. STEL : 250 ppm, 1040 mg/m3.
3.2 Engineering Controls
Use adequate ventilation to ensure airbourne concentrations remain below exposure standard.
3.3 Personal Protection
Use chemical safety goggles, rubber gloves. Use only in a chemical fume hood. If in nonventilated area, use NIOSHA/MSHA approved respirator or if exposure above the ACGIH TLV. Do not breathe vapour, do not get in eyes, on skin or clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling. Use non sparking tools.
3.4 Flammability
Highly flammable. Products of decompositionj include carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION
4.1 Storage / Transport
Keep containers tightly closed. Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Store in a cool dry place. Keep away from oxidizing agents, bases, acids and moisture.
4.2 Packaging / Labelling UN No. 1276 Class 3 Sub Risk None Allocated Hazchem Code 3[Y]E Pack Group II EPG No. 18 Shipping Name n-PROPYL ACETATE Hazard IRRITANT FLAMMABLE
Risk Phrases R11 Highly flammable.
Safety Phrases S16 Keep away from sources of ignition. S23 Do not breathe vapour. S29 Do not empty into drains. S33 Take precautionary measures against static discharges.
4.3 Spills and Disposal
Spills
Clean-up personnel should wear protective clothing including breathing protection in confined areas. Remove all sources of ignition. Ventilate area. Do not allow to mix with oxidizing agents, acids, bases, moisture or heat.
Cover spilled material with an activated carbon absorbent, take up and place in closed containers. Transport outdoors. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.
Disposal
Burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber but extra care in igniting as this material is highly flammable. Observe all local, state and federal regulations.
4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD Fire / Explosion
Use water spray to cool fire exposed containers. Vapour may travel considerable distance to source of ignition and flash back. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions.
Extinguishing Media
Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Use carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder or appropriate foam type extinguishers. Water may be effective for cooling, but may not effect extinguishment. 5 OTHER INFORMATION
