3.1 Exposure Standards

No exposure limit has been established for this material by Worksafe , however the following is recommended for nuisance dust : TWA 10 mg/m3.

3.2 Engineering Controls

Ensure adequate ventilation to maintain airborne concentrations to a minimum.

3.3 Personal Protection

Protective glasses are recommended when exposure to this product is expected. Wear other protective clothing to minimise contact. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling and before work breaks, eating, drinking, smoking and using toilet facilities.

4.1 Storage / Transport

4.3 Spills and Disposal

Spills

Clean up personnel should wear protective clothing and breathing apparatus in dusty conditions. Avoid raising dust.

Flush small spills away with plenty of water. Sweep up large spills together with dust binding agent or use a vacuum cleaner. Place waste in containers for disposal.

Disposal

Dispose of in accordance with all Local, State and Federal regulations at an approved waste disposal facility. Dispose of to landfill.

4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Fire / Explosion

Sulphur dioxide, which is harmful to health, may be evolved during a fire. Decomposition starts at about 120 deg C. Hazardous decomposition products include sulphur dioxide (with acids). The product reacts with acids, sodium nitrate and oxidising agents.

Extinguishing Media

Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Use water type extinguishers. DO NOT inhale fire emissions. Use equipment/media appropriate to surrounding fire conditions.


5 OTHER INFORMATION


Other Information

The product should never enter wastewater streams without pretreatment. The elimination test cannot be conducted as the product is inorganic. As the product is inorganic, it may cause oxygen consumption in biological treatment plants. The degredation activity of the activated sludge in adapted biological effluent treatment plants should not be affected. Sulphur dioxide is evolved in an acidic environment. Observe effluent discharge regulations.
