2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION
2.1 Health Effects - Acute Swallowed
Unlikely to cause significant effects. Eye
Physical nature of powder may cause mechanical irritation. Skin
Unlikely to cause irritant effects. Inhaled
Acute exposure to dust may cause irritation to respiratory tract. 2.2 Health Effects - Chronic
Fluorspar may contain up to 1.5% silica (amorphous or crystalline) as an impurity. Chronic inhalation exposure to crystalline silica may result in serious adverse health effects particularly if the silica is of respirable size (approximately < 7 micron aerodynamic diameter). Crystalline silica has been shown to induce lung cancer in laboratory animals and there is limited evidence that it may cause lung cancer in humans. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified crystalline silica as a probable human carcinogen (2A).
2.3 First Aid
Swallowed
If swallowed, give a glass of water. If feeling unwell contact a doctor or .
Eye
If in eyes wash with water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists see a doctor.
Skin
Wash affected areas thoroughly with water.
Inhaled
If discomfort or irritation occurs remove to fresh air.
First Aid Facilities
Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use.
2.5 Advice to Doctor
Treat symptomatically based on judgement of doctor and individual reactions of patient.

3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
3.1 Exposure Standards
The following exposure limits have been established by Worksafe : Inorganic fluorides (as F) TWA : 2.5 mg/m3 Crystalline silica TWA : 0.1 or 0.2 mg/m3
3.2 Engineering Controls
The generation of dusts should be avoided. Where possible, dampen material. If dust generation is unavoidable, local exhaust ventilation should be used to achieve concentrations below TWA.
3.3 Personal Protection
A Class P1 particulate filter respirator should be used where dusts may be formed, in accordance with n and New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1716:1994. Eye goggles should be worn as a general precaution if dust is likely to be formed. Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling and before work breaks, eating, drinking, smoking and using toilet facilities.
